Funding forms are now available for four courses abroad run by CILT in summer 2009, and teachers should apply as soon as possible to ensure a place on their chosen course. The courses in France, Spain and Italy provide a perfect opportunity for primary and secondary teachers to brush up on their language skills, pick up fresh ideas, and put together a bank of resources to take back to the languages classroom: www.cilt.org.uk/cpd/abroad

Primary teachers involved in teaching French and Spanish in their schools will benefit from one of three week-long courses this summer, which focus on picking up creative, practical teaching ideas ready for instant use in the classroom. Teachers attending the Spanish course in Tordesillas from 24-30 May, or one of two French courses in Lille from 26 July – 1 August and 16-22 August, will also enjoy language classes with native teachers and a range of cultural excursions. Teachers are welcome with a range of levels of French or Spanish, from basic knowledge to fluent speakers of the language.
Teacher Deborah Boldero from Norfolk went to Lille last year. She said ‘We all staggered away with armfuls of great ideas and examples of activities we could use back in school. I was more than a little apprehensive about the trip before I went but I returned with a real sense of achievement.’ To read more about Deborah’s experience on the Lille course, visit: www.nacell.org.uk/doing/lille.htm
For secondary teachers of Spanish, CILT is running a two-week course on Spanish for the Secondary school in Pamplona from 24 May – 6 June. The course includes language and methodology classes, visits to Spanish secondary schools, and a programme of excursions, allowing participants to update their language skills, develop their cultural awareness, and create materials to use in class. As the course is conducted entirely in Spanish, a good knowledge of the language is essential.
Secondary teachers of Italian should look out for Italiano a la Fiorentina, taking place in Florence from 22-31 October 2009, with a funding deadline of 30 April. To register your interest, email michelle.judge@cilt.org.uk

Teachers interested in attending a course in Spain or France next summer should apply for funding from the British Council by 16 January 2009. Forms are now available on the British Council website: www.britishcouncil.org/comenius-applications-forms-and-guidance.htm
